Neighborhoods such as Windsor Farms, Glenburnie, Hillcrest and Hampton Gardens represent some of the most well-respected neighborhoods in the RVA Metro. With detached housing styles reflective of the late 1920’s into the 1950’s (contrasted to the row home styles in Fan and Museum Districts), the Near West End, as it is sometimes called, offers housing choices that are powerful and important to Richmond.

While some of the housing stock in Zone 20 dates back to the early 1900?s, most of the homes in this zone were built during the period from 1930 to 1950. While there is some variance architecturally (especially among some of the signature homes along Cary Street), the styles are largely what one would consider to be traditional Richmond styles with Cape Cods, ranch-styled and Colonials as the predominant designs.
It is interesting to note that there are a few pockets of ‘Modern Architecture’ in Zone 20. Some of these homes were recently built and are truly “Modern”, while others date back to the Mid-Century Modernist Movement of the 1950?s.
Overall, the Zone represents some of the most expensive housing in Richmond, both in overall price and “price per square foot”, and has weathered the economic shift better than most other areas.
